A shopper has offered her verdict after putting three cleaning products to the test to find which was best for tackling dirty and discoloured grout. The mum from Sydney used a $10.38 grout cleaner from Bunnings and two budget stain removers designed for laundry from Woolworths ($2.79) and Aldi ($1.25). Despite their remarkably different price tags, all three products were able to transform the old, black grout around her tiles in the kitchen, leaving them cleaner.

'Have been meaning to clean the grout in my kitchen since we moved in. I purchased the grout cleaner (yellow) and grout brush from Bunnings and was impressed with a quick patch test I did,' she wrote in a Facebook group.

'But then I recalled that people have been using the stain remover spray from Aldi, so thought I'd do a little experiment to see how the different options stack up with the Boost Clean stain remover from Woolies.

'To be honest, results were pretty comparable.'

Many were amazed with the grout transformation, with one saying: 'So satisfying. Thanks for the comparison.'

Others shared their go-to products for tacking tired grout, with one woman saying she used a $5 White King toilet cleaner bleach gel.

'I moved into our new house and the tiles and grout were black and had gunk stuck in the grout. Bit of bleach gel directly on the tiles and added a splash of water then gave a very quick scrub with my broom,' she said.

While one wrote: 'I just use toilet cleaner and I have never gone back.'

Another woman said she cleaned her grout with hydrochloric acid after getting a handy tip from a tiler.

'Fill a two-litre bottle with water to 1.8L, then add 200ml of the acid. Poured on the tiles, left for 10 minutes, then rinse off,' she said.

'A tiler gave me the correct ratios and instructions. The grout was so clean and the tiles felt so smooth afterwards.'

Some suggested sealing the grout after cleaning so it could stay cleaner for longer.

'I've been using Ajax powder to clean and then have been sealing them,' one wrote.
